Cadillac XTS got the go-ahead for production
GM has been making a lot a smart moves lately, and this confirmation of the XTS production is definitely beneficial for the company's revival effort. The XTS will eventually replace the aging STS and DTS. Production will start later this year and the first XTS will hit the road next year as 2012 model.
The Cadillac XTS sports a green image by featuring a plug-in hybrid system that mates with a direct-injection 3.6L V6 in its powertrain. Being green probably helped solidifying a business case for the XTS, but the exciting news is the twin turbo V6 in the works. We certainly hope to see one rolls off the production line with a twin turbo V6 under its hood next year because after all, we buy emotionally.
GM sold Saab to the highest bidder, Spyker Cars
Unlike Tiger Woods who gave in to publicly apologize for his sex scandal, The General has finally called it quits and divorced his Swedish beauty, Saab. In all fairness, GM didn't have any offspring with Saab so the financial complications weren't too bad to work out in court. It also helps when there's always someone (Spyker Cars, Dutch supercar maker) who desperately lusts after a Swede native with a good-looking behind.
Buick Regal GS Show Car
Being a 25 year old guy, saying you're digging a Buick four-banger is socially suicidal. Especially so if you come to work every morning to find GM trucks fill the parking lot. Perhaps it wouldn't be so bad after all if the said Buick is this new breed, the Regal GS 'Show Car'.
For decades the Buick brand has been strongly associated and heavily marketed to the older demographic in North America. That however is about to change. As GM is restructuring itself with fewer brands, marketing strategies for Buick now have been shifted to appeal more youngsters. The Buick Regal GS 'Show Car' is one bold step into this direction.
Packing a high-pressured turbocharged four cylinder producing 255HP with all-wheel-drive, 6 speed manual and a rather attractive look, the Regal GS certainly gathers interest of a lot more drivers than just the grandpas among us. I'd say the General got most of his marketing executions right. Now go hire Megan Fox to be the spokebabe.
